Power of Attorney

How to Give Power of Attorney From Outside the UAE

Granting a POA while abroad, attestation, legalisation and everything in between.

Why a normal POA isn't enough for cross-border use

A standard UAE Power of Attorney, notarised at a Dubai notary public, is generally only accepted inside the UAE, as covered in our overview on Power of Attorney in the UAE. To be valid abroad, it must also be attested by MOFAIC (the Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and legalised according to the destination country's requirements.

Who this applies to

  • Selling or managing a property in your home country
  • Handling a bank or financial matter overseas
  • Managing a court or official task abroad
  • Signing documents on your behalf in another country

How the process runs

  1. 1Tell us the details: you share the destination country and what your attorney needs to do.
  2. 2Draft & notarise: the POA is drafted and notarised at a Dubai notary public.
  3. 3Attest & legalise: MOFAIC attestation and the destination country's legalisation or embassy step are arranged.
  4. 4Delivery: the fully legalised POA is delivered to you, ready to use abroad.

Documents you'll need

  • Principal's Emirates ID and passport
  • Full name and details of the attorney abroad
  • The destination country and the purpose of the POA

Cost and turnaround

DocuGulf's all-in service fee for an outside-person POA starts from AED 890, covering preparation, coordination and delivery, typically taking 3–7 days. Government fees, including attestation and the destination country's legalisation, are always shown separately at cost, and vary by country, typically around AED 500–2,000 including legalisation. We give you the exact figure once we know the destination.

Key takeaways

  • Turnaround is typically 3–7 days, longer than a standard local POA.
  • Cost depends on the destination country, DocuGulf's service fee starts from AED 890.
  • You'll need the attorney's full details exactly as they should appear in the document.
