UAE Family Visa Renewal Checklist

A simple checklist so your family's visas renew on time, every time.

Start before the expiry date, not after

UAE residence visas need to be renewed before they lapse. Letting a family member's visa expire can lead to fines and complications, so it's best to start the renewal process a few weeks ahead rather than waiting until the last few days.

What to re-check

  • Sponsor's salary or employment status still meets the requirement
  • Ejari (tenancy contract) is current and registered
  • Sponsor's own residence visa has enough validity remaining, or is also due for renewal
  • Passports for both sponsor and family member are valid for the renewal period

The renewal process

  1. 1Confirm eligibilityWe re-check the salary and tenancy requirements are still met.
  2. 2Medical test, if requiredSome renewals require a fresh medical test, depending on the family member's age and visa category.
  3. 3Emirates ID renewalProcessed alongside the visa renewal.
  4. 4Visa stampingThe renewed visa is stamped, extending residency for another term.

Cost and timing

Renewal timelines are broadly similar to a first-time application, typically a couple of weeks, though often smoother since most of the underlying eligibility documents are already familiar. DocuGulf's service fee is the same AED 3,200 as a new application, with government fees shown separately and passed through at cost. If your Ejari has also lapsed, we can renew that alongside the visa, see our guide on Ejari renewal, step by step if that applies to you.

Key takeaways

Key takeaways: Start the renewal a few weeks before expiry to avoid fines or a lapse in residency. Re-check the sponsor's salary, Ejari, and both parties' passport validity before applying. The process mirrors the original application, eligibility check, medical if required, Emirates ID and stamping. DocuGulf's fee is AED 3,200, with government fees shown separately at cost.
